Capitol Forum Timeline 2009

Here is the timeline leading up to the Capitol Forum on March 26, 2009.

When?

What? Who?/How?

By March 6

Select 5-8 students to attend the Capitol Forum in Olympia. Teacher:
Show them examples:
2007 Ballot Report (PDF)
(All US Students)

2007 Ballot Report (PDF)
(Washington Students)

By March 10

Provide background readings to selected students. Teacher provides:
Global Issues Booklets (Environment, Immigration, Proliferation, Terrorism, Trade) and
US Role in the World: 4 Futures (pdf)

By March 20

Arrange for transportation to the State Capitol. Teacher:
Ask for parent volunteers?

By March 24

Get signed media release forms from all attending students and bring them to Olympia. Teacher

By March 24
Important

Send list of participating students to Michele. We need: First Name, Last Name, School, Teacher Name, and Topic they've been assigned. Teacher:

March 26

Attend Capitol Forum in Olympia. Teacher, Selected Students:
Agenda (Word) - draft as of 3/23/2009

By April 30

Student representatives lead post-forum lesson. Capitol Forum Students
Post-Forum Lesson Plan and Resources (pdf)  

By April 30

As the final activity of the post-forum lesson, have all students complete the ballot activity and write a Future 5 that will be sent to legislators or the newspaper. Students:

Online Ballot (see instructions below)

By May 5

Deadline for completing the ballot activity online. Students:
Online Ballot Instructions (PDF):
1. Go to Online Ballot.
Select US Role ballot.
2. On the ballot, select State: Washington
3. Answer "Yes" to Are you participating in Capitol Forum?
4. Rate the Futures and complete the other ballot questions.

5. Click Submit.

By May 12

Send Future 5’s to elected officials. Students
