Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)
http://www.seattleu.edu/artsci/forlang/chin/
Dear colleagues, students and community friends,
It is time again to register for the HSK test to be held at Seattle
University on October 18, 2009. The deadline for the registration is
October 5. As in the past, we will still administer two HSK tests at the
Seattle U site in 2009. Generally the Basic Level test is for those who
have studied Chinese for one to two years at the college level or the
equivalent. The Intermediate level is for those having studied longer.
Note that this is the last time that the old version of the HSK tests
will be offered. Starting next year (2010), a new HSK will be
administered at all HSK sites across the world. Details will be provided
when they are available.
Attached please find the details regarding this year's test, including
the Registration Form. Due to the university's website update process,
you may not be able to access the HSK Website at SU currently. Please
refer all your questions to Dr. Ming Feng at
fengm@seattleu.edu. Please note
that Dr. Feng will not be able answer your phone call until after
September 12th. Your assistance in making the opportunity reach more
community members is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Ming Feng, Ph. D

In recent years, CLASS has established itself as a dynamic operational
group and has played a leading role in the improvement of the Chinese
language in the American public and private schools. CLASS is now a
501(c)(3) organization and a member organization of the National Council
of Organizations of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCT) and the

The Curriculum Development Division at the Defense Language Institute develops online courses and materials. The Onlinelearning Sustainment and Enhancement Language Courses have already been developed in Arabic, Chinese-Mandarin and Korean. The target audience for these materials is a ILR level 1 to 1+ language learner. The materials focus on improving both listening and reading comprehension up to and beyond ILR level 2. All in all, each of the three courses rounds out approximately 30-40 hours of online instruction.
Heritage
Language Journal
http://www.heritagelanguages.org/
Volume 4, Number 1, Fall 2006 -- Special Issue on Chinese
We are very pleased to publish this first guest-edited issue of the
Heritage Language Journal, dedicated to issues of concern in Chinese
heritage language teaching and learning. Sunday community schools have
been teaching heritage speakers of many Chinese dialects for
generations. It is relatively recently, however, that universities and
K-12 public schools have realized that there is a compelling need to
develop special programs, typically in Mandarin, for Chinese heritage
students. This issue is the Journal’s first response to the emergence of
Chinese heritage programs, and we anticipate publishing additional
articles in the future as research projects continue to develop.
