Andrea has purchased the drums from John's Music. Here's her thank-you note.

Michele,

Hi there! I just thought I'd let you know that I purchased the drums today and the receipt is in the mail. Thank you so much for all your help on this. I'm actually on maternity leave right now, but I can't wait to play with those drums with my kids when I get back. And I know my leave replacement is going to thoroughly enjoy them before I get back. Thanks so much for encouraging multi-cultural education within Washington State's schools. It is a much needed and often ignored component of a child's development.

Have a terrific day,

Andrea

Jennifer Geist and Michele Anciaux Aoki attended the Teacher of the Year announcement by OSPI at the Museum of Flight on October 10, 2006. The 2007 Washington State Teacher of the Year is Andrea Peterson from Monte Cristo Elementary in Granite Falls School District.

We sent her the following award letter:

November 14, 2005

Dear Andrea,

It was wonderful to see you at the Museum of Flight this fall when the 2007 State Teacher of the Year Award were announced. Congratulations, once again!

We are so pleased to present you with the third “International Education Scholarship” award for the Washington State Teacher of the Year. We hope that this $1000 award will help you create a truly meaningful global learning experience for yourself and/or your students this year. When you have decided how you would like to use the money, please contact me.

We are holding the grant money for you at this time at the International Trade Education Foundation. We can reimburse you for any expenses related to global learning or write a check to cover a fee, such as registration in an international teaching seminar. If you have any questions, please contact us. We want this to be easy for you!

The 2005 winner, Tamara Steen, used the money to fund a trip to Guam for the National Teacher of the Year Awards program. You may also want to consider an international travel experience.

I hope you will also consider joining the Washington State Coalition for International Education (it's free!). You can sign up for our email lists via the Get Involved form: http://internationaledwa.org/forms/get_involved.htm. We hope you will help us promote the goal of preparing all students for today's interconnected world.

To learn more about the Coalition, see: http://internationaledwa.org/news/press/media_kit.htm.

I've cc-ed Greg Tuke and Jennifer Geist, who are involved in some amazing projects through Bridges to Understanding http://www.bridges2understanding.org/ and iEARN International Education and Resource Network www.iearn.org. They would be happy to talk with you about ideas for your international education experience, as well.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best,

Michele
