Coalition Receives State Innovations Grant for 2007!
In Spring 2007, the Coalition was awarded its fifth State Innovations Grant from Longview Foundation and the National Coalition for International Education.

In the previous four years, also with the help of State Innovations grants, the Coalition has successfully built broad, grassroots support for international education in Washington State and increased the flow of information and resource-sharing through its website and email lists. We have come a long way and our work is worth celebrating! To learn more about the various projects the grant will help fund this year, visit About the Coalition > Projects.
Model for Global Perspectives in Education

As part of our State Innovations grant, the Coalition will sponsor "best practices" workshops and share globalized curriculum in Math & Science. We will also help document the approaches to integrating global perspectives into school programs, as developed at John Stanford and Hamilton International Middle School.
Surveying the Languages Being Taught in Washington State - The MELL Project
The University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies received funding to launch a four-year project entitled "Mapping and Enhancing Language Learning" (MELL) in Washington state. The online survey, produced through a collaborative effort, represents a first step to help us get a better picture of what languages students are currently learning in our K-12 schools and community language programs. This project builds on the World Languages Survey that was part of the Coalition's 2004 State Innovations Grant and it has received additional funding from our 2007 State Innovations grant. You can view current survey results at UW>LLC>MELL.

Alert! Please encourage your elementary or middle school to complete the MELL Online Survey. It takes less than 5 minutes.
