Capitol Forum Timeline 2008

Here is the timeline leading up to the Capitol Forum on March 27, 2008.

Winter Pre-Forum Workshop All Participants
Plan for Capitol Forum

By February 15

Do pre-forum lesson with all students in the class(es). Teacher

By February 20

Select 5-8 students to attend the Capitol Forum in Olympia. Teacher
Show them:

Provide background readings to selected students. Teacher
Global Issues Booklets (Environment, Immigration, Proliferation, Terrorism, Trade) and
US Role in the World: 4 Futures (pdf)

Have students develop a class statement and send it to Michele Anciaux Aoki

Arrange for transportation to the State Capitol. Teacher
Ask for parent volunteers?

Get signed media release forms from all attending students and bring them to Olympia. Teacher

Important

Send list of participating students to Michele. We need: First Name, Last Name, School, Teacher Name, and Topic they've been assigned. Teacher:

Have students complete poster.
(Note: Any of the students can participate in developing the poster; make sure that the selected students are prepared to present it.)

Attend Capitol Forum in Olympia. Teacher, Selected Students

As the final activity of the post-forum lesson, have all students complete the ballot activity and write a Future 5 that will be sent to legislators or the newspaper. Students

May 2

Deadline for completing the ballot activity online. Students
Online Ballot Instructions:
1. Go to Online Ballot.
2. Select State: Washington
3. Rate the Futures and complete the other ballot questions.
4. At the end check "Yes" for Are you participating in Capitol Forum.
5. Click Submit.
 

May 9

Send Future 5’s to elected officials. Students
