Meeting Notes:
- Review of D.C. Institute: Materials received were shared; brief
overviews of experiences were discussed.
- The following activities for the team were planned:
- Michele and Will will draft a short team report using the WSAME article published by Cynthia as a starting point. It will include a definition of “international education.” The draft will be distributed to the rest of the team for review/editing by the end of January. The final report will be given to Joan who will distribute it to Governor Locke and Superintendent Bergeson at OSPI.
- Michele will look into the possibility of developing a free website on the international education in the schools initiative for Washington State through SCN.
- A meeting to generate a wide-body of potential supporters and resources for the international education initiative in Washington will be held on March 19t from 3-5 p.m. The place will be determined later.
- Cynthia will draft a letter of invitation (with RSVP information) and send it out by mid-February to the organizations and individuals identified as potential supporters and resources to the state’s international education movement.
- A planning meeting for the Washington State Team to discuss strategies and agenda items for the March invitational meeting will be held on February 26 from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. at the Uwajimaya Conference Room.
- An initial list of organizations and individuals to invite to the meeting in March was generated. Other organizations and individuals may also be submitted as they are identified. Each team member assigned to the organization/individual will provide Cynthia with the complete names, titles and addresses by February 1st. The list included:

- A list of possible sites to hold the March meeting from 3-5 p.m. was generated. They will be contacted to see if they are available and at what cost. This information will be provided to Cynthia no later than February 1st. She will inform the team of what is available and a decision as to site will be made.

- The meeting to discuss the agenda and approach for the March 19th meeting includes:
- Present the information generated at the WA. D.C. Institute
- Develop a Washington State Checklist on international education
- Create a state survey on international education
- Discuss the possibility of holding an international education summit
- Funding/grants available
- Other items TBD
- Two possible grants available were discussed. Ideas for grants needs included the holding of a summit on international education later in the year. One grant was through the Asia Society; Michele will look into this. The other was through the Longview Foundation; Cynthia will work on this.
