Subject:  Making the Public Case for International Education (1/27/2004)

To: International Education Advocates

I encourage you to read this very interesting report on communicating about International Education. The report's author, Susan Bales, presented at this year's States Institute for International Education in Washington, DC in November. She'll be working with the states on how to most effectively craft our messages about International Education. Great ideas for us in Washington State, too.

Making the Public Case for International Education
(reprinted with permission from Internationaled.org newsletter January 2004)

This memo reports cutting edge findings from FrameWorks Institute's recent survey and focus group research on how Americans view international education. It outlines the public's reactions to specific reform arguments advanced by international education advocates of enhanced teacher training, exchange programs, early language study and cultural literacy in elementary and secondary schools.

This work was conducted for Asia Society in partnership with the American Forum for Global Education and supported by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
