UPDATE:
Global Campaign for Education Action Week,
April 19-24
From the American Federation of
Teachers:
"The AFT is pleased to join with the Global Campaign for Education
Action Week, April 19-24, when tens of thousands of students around the
world will be learning about the importance of education and the role of
the international community in making sure that every child can go to
school. More than 100 million children under the age of 14, most of them
girls, have never attended school and instead must work to support
themselves and their families.
With assistance from AFT, the U.S. chapter of GCE developed a
curriculum and classroom activities to help American students understand
the issues involved in achieving universal quality education. One activity
is a letter-writing campaign. Students can participate in the World’s
Biggest Lobby by writing letters to political leaders urging their support
for access to education for all children. For details, see:

Advocacy Alert from the
Fulbright Association:
The House and Senate plan to bring the FY05
Budget Resolution to Conference Committee and floor votes the week of
April 19th when Congress returns from its spring district work
period. Take advantage of the fact that your Representative and Senators
are back in your district/state and contact their local offices to
encourage their support for funding the International Affairs account at
$31.5 billion in FY05.
Please take a moment and
send a message to your Senators and Representative and urge them to
oppose any cuts to the International Affairs Budget. Every voice will make
a difference.
