Summit Flyer (Note:
it's a large pdf file.)

our Summit page has already brought in 3 registrations by email.

listed. If you're not on the list and would like to be, let me know.
- Shared Summit plans at States Network for International Education in
North Carolina. I have some resources from this event that we can use at
the Summit.
- Met with Principal Karen Kodama and her principal intern, Kelly
Aramaki, to design the Principals' Roundtable at the Summit.
- Met with Suzanne Erickson of the Alliance for Education to discuss the
Summit.
- Nancy Bacon of the World Affairs Council and Mary Bernson from the
East Asia Center of the Jackson School of International Studies have
agreed to spearhead the afternoon session 3:30-6:30 pm. (We've extended it
an hour so they can offer free clock to teachers who come.)
- Grace Norman of the Asia Society has just moved back to Seattle, but
will continue working for Asia Society long distance. She's eager to work
on the Summit and we welcome her involvement!
- Caleb Perkins of OSPI has agreed to coordinate the session on how
International Ed fits into the Washington State Standards and Assessments.

- Bonus Session and Resource Fair
Nancy described the goal for the session is to energize teachers and
give them hands-on resources to use in the next 9 months.
First hour (3:30-4:30) Resource Fair with mini-presentations available
by the groups participating; chance to network and make contacts.
Second & third hours (4:30-5:30; 5:30-6:30) Two (possibly up to four)
breakout sessions for teachers. Plan is to engage international students
at the university in a discussion of US foreign policy and culture. May
have an additional breakout for students and parents about study abroad
opportunities. (This would be non-clock hour offering.)
We had some discussion about targeting some breakouts for elementary
and others for middle or high school. (This may happen more in the Summit
early afternoon breakout.)
- Other Notes and Ideas
- Dee reminded us to include information about the cognitive benefits
of second language acquisition.
- Make the summit about learning and engaging. It needs to be
interactive and inspiring and action-oriented. What will you do with
what you learned here? Consider having a take-home "first win" sheet
with a commitment to action within 30 days.
- Include appropriate recorded music to aid in transitions. (We'll
contact Global Sound to ask for help.)
